Books are my favorite way for parents and/or caregivers to work on language skills at home. Reading with your child can easily be incorporated into your daily routine. Books to Practice Articulation Skills

One of the easiest ways for parents to practice their child’s articulation skills  at home is to read sound loaded storybooks.  As you read to your child, emphasize your child’s targeted sound when it is brought up in the story.  If your child is a reader encourage them to seek out words in the book with their targeted speech sound.  This also gives the opportunity to work on other speech and language skills like listening comprehension and vocabulary.  As you read the story ask questions related to the book and have your child identify the objects in pictures.   • Have your child retell stories and talk about their day.

  • Talk with your child about what you do during the day. Give them directions to follow.

  • Talk about how things are the same and how things are different.

  • Give your child chances to write.

  • Read every day. Find books or magazines that interest your child.
