Fall Books for Language Development

Books are my favorite way for parents and/or caregivers to work on language skills at home.  Reading with your child can easily be incorporated into your daily routine.  Language skills that can be addressed while you read with your child include vocabulary, adjectives, wh-question (‘what’, ‘who’, ‘where’, ‘when’, and ‘why’), sequencing, and syntax.  Below is a list I complied of my favorite fall books for language development.

  1. Let it Fall by Maryann Cocca-Leffler

    Ages: 3-5 years old

This fall story teaches the reader about fall vocabulary.

  2. Pumpkin Patch by Margaret McNamara

    Ages: 4-6 years old

Tag along with Mrs. Connor’s class as they go on a field trip to the pumpkin patch.

  3. Fall Weather: Cooler Temperature by Martha E. H. Rustad

    Ages: 5-8 years old

This book teaches the reader about the weather changes during fall and how humans and animals prepare for colder weather.

  4. Fall (Bright Baby Touch and Feel) by Roger Priddy

    Ages: 1-3 years old

Learn all about Fall and Thanksgiving vocabulary with this interactive book.

  5. It’s Fall by Linda Glaser

This book is filled with beautiful pictures and teaches the reader about a variety of fall topics from the changing colors to how plants adjust to the temperature change.

I hope you and your child enjoy reading these fall books! Additionally, feel free to contact In Home Speech Solutions if you have questions or concerns or if there’s anything we can help with.
